“Toward the end of the Mycenaean civilization, a legend of a mysterious island and the Sirens was passed down. The song of the birds was an invitation to the abyssal sea, yet Boutès was the only one who chose to leap into it.”
On that coast stands a ghost city. Upon finally arriving, what unfolded before my eyes was a partitioned mudflat and a building left with only its structural frame. I walked along the end of the road trying to reach the mudflat, but there was only a fence and no path leading to it. The neoliberal development narrative—symbolized by land reclamation and urban zoning—appears to organically connect land to land, but in reality, it imposes a threshold upon the vast environment, depriving the possibility of movement and decontextualizing the place. Memory of wanting to reach the island across while passing under a bridge, and the news that the connecting road was controlled due to development. Alienated from the speed of mechanized capital, the human body is exposed on the coast of this capitalist threshold as an infinitely fragile, strange, and mortal being.
Boutès intersects the myth of Boutès—who chose to throw himself into the abyssal sea—with the record of visiting that coast over 109 days to build a shelter, pursuing the primordial sea and origins. In this process, it traces the point where the singular narrative of urbanization founders—the point where the border myth collides with non-human nature, causing cracks. The film thus navigates outside the boundaries set by the city, re-tracing with bodily sensation the landscape erased by urban planning, and dives in.

“ 미케네 문명 말엽, 신비한 섬과 세이렌에 대한 전설이 전해져왔다. 새들의 노랫소리는 심연의 바다로의 초대였으나, 그곳으로 뛰어들기를 선택한 자는 부테스뿐이었다. “
그 해안에 유령도시가 있다-. 이윽고 찾아간 곳에 펼쳐진 것은 구획된 갯벌과 골조만 남은 건물. 갯벌에 가고자 도로의 끝을 둘러서 계속 걸어가 보았지만, 울타리만 있을 뿐 갯벌로 통하는 길은 없었다. 간척과 도시 구획으로 상징되는 신자유주의적 개발 서사는 땅과 땅을 유기적으로 연결하는 듯 보이지만, 실상은 광활한 환경에 임계점을 부여하며 이동의 가능성을 박탈하고 장소를 탈맥락화한다. 이전에 다리의 아래를 지나며 건너의 섬에 가고 싶었던 기억과 연결도로가 개발로 인해 통제되었다는 소식. 기계화된 자본의 속도에서 소외된 인간의 육체는 그 자본주의적 임계의 연안 위에서 한없이 허약하고 기이한, 필멸의 존재로서 노출된다.
< Boutes >는 그 해안을 109일간 방문하며 쉘터를 지었던 기록과 심연의 바다로의 투신을 택한 부테스의 신화를 교차하며, 태고의 바다와 기원을 쫓는다. 이 과정에서 도시화라는 단일한 서사가 좌초된 지점, 곧 경계 신화가 비-인간적 자연과 충돌하며 균열을 일으키는 지점을 추적한다. 그렇게 필름은 도시가 설정한 경계의 바깥을 항해하며, 도시 계획이 지워버린 풍경을 신체의 감각으로 다시 더듬으며 투신한다.
